Intake, Assessment & Referral Services
Amethyst Women’s Project operates a volunteer staffed Intake, Assessment and Referral (IAR) Unit that provides a perfect complement to the outreach, education, counseling and HIV testing functions that have formed the core of Amethyst’s programming. As Peer Outreach Educators work to identify individuals at-risk of HIV infection, more than 95% of those tested for HIV will test negative yet continue to engage in high risk behaviors such as unprotected sex and intravenous drug use. By referring and often escorting at-risk individuals to the IAR Unit, Amethyst is able to conduct a preliminary assessment, prioritize needs, and create an individual treatment plan that addresses each individual’s most pressing needs via referral, follow-up and supportive services. The IAR is led by the Intake Coordinator who works closely with an Intake Assistant to assure that clients access a comprehensive range of primary care and supportive services consistent with their personal needs profile. He IAR Unit is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and at other times as necessary.
