Board & Executive Director
AWP has an active and diverse board of five members who carry out the governance function with a high level of energy and commitment. Current board members include a local representative of the clergy, a local school teacher, a regional business consultant, a representative of the target population served, a social worker, with many being community residents. The board meets monthly and works in coordination with the Executive Director to forge a strategic direction for the organization and in helping to secure the resources necessary to sustain agency operations. The current Executive Director, Aida Leon, is the founder of Amethyst Women's Project, a woman in recovery, a lifelong resident of Coney Island and an outspoken advocate for women and families in Brooklyn.
